The Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival (PAAFF) is the third largest film festival focusing on films by and about Asian and Pacific Islander diaspora in the U.S. and largest on the east coast!
Volunteering with PAAFF since 2021, both the organization and I have grown side by side in storytelling and sharing our message for the festival every year into an expansive visually compelling world for our annual fall festival campaign. Below highlights our most recent 2024 festival.

When Joey & Arzhang shared that the 2024 Festival theme was “Reflections,” my mind immediately jumped back to my parents’ home décor: the pearl lacquerware cabinets and the triptych artworks depicting day-to-day life.
Drawing from illustrative ornaments that combine East Asian motifs, batik patterns, and even the Philadelphia’s Friendship Arch—and emphasizing balance and symmetry through framing—the PAAFF design team built a cohesive visual world, translating Mother-of-Pearl into screen and print.
Most excitedly, we created a world that was reflective in many ways: reflective of our family homewares, reflective in its pearlescent/shimmering colors, reflective in its symmetry and balance, and reflective in the films the audience were gearing up to see soon.

i wanna hear it!
